No sound from ESU 73814

I have an ESU Sound decoder,  version 4, in a Bachmann Connie. I took it out of the box, and I get motion and lights, but no sound. I disconnected the speaker, tested it, and it works. I keep punching the 8 function key on my NCE Power Cab, but still nothing. I have also done a hard reset to no avail. It is sound file 73814.

Any suggestions?

Sound file 73814 would be a (very old, pre FullThrottle) Select file, not V4.  Did you load the file, or was it loaded for you? Assume you actually have a Select decoder.  It is possible that the sound circuitry got blown (typically shorted speaker wires). Motor and lights tend to still work when that happens.

What model number is your decoder? The V4.0 and Select lines have separate sound file selections, and while I've never tried installing a Select file into a V4.0 decoder, it may not be compatible. If your decoder is a V4.0 Micro for example, try one of these: http://projects.esu.eu/projectoverviews/4?type=steam&order=date

Micro Select, yes, my mistake. The file was pre-loaded; I don’t have a programmer yet. I suppose anything is possible, but I don’t believe the speaker wires have been shorted. If the sound circuitry is blown, I assume the decoder cannot be repaired?

I don’t know model number, here is a picture of the decoder:

No, cannot be repaired, but contact ESU (their service line is open Tues & Thurs). They will replace with a LS 5 DCC Micro (closest new model), if you have your purchase receipt.

Have you tried resetting the decoder (CV8=8; do not do via Program on Main)?

Just now, at your suggestion. No joy. But thanks for helping.

I talked to Alec today at ESU, the decoder is going in the mail tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion.
