Athearn ribbed hopper:

http://www.spookshow.net/freight/mdc3bay.html

My point was that the hopper in the artwork is NOT the MDC ribbed hopper. ;)

Too bad....

Some NW H11's lasted well into the NS era in ballast service and are reasonable matches (foobs)  for the peak end MDC/Athearn car.

But they were in spartan black, no logo and NW marks.

The MDC car is not even close to an H11.

Here we see another example of the difficulties of the "preorder" world.  Nobody knows for sure if this will be a rerun of old MDC tooliing (in which case, the artwork is wrong) or new tooling (in which case, we are left trying to discern the prototype).  And the "prototype info" provided by the manufacturer...
Quote
PROTOTYPE AND BACKGROUND INFO:
The development of the hopper car went along with the development of automated handling of such commodities, with automated loading and unloading facilities.
Open hopper cars are used for commodities such as coal, which can suffer exposure with less detrimental effect. Hopper cars have been used by railways worldwide whenever automated cargo handling has been desired.
Seriously? I am going to assume that virtually EVERYONE who subscribes to the Athearn newsletter knew that much before they looked at their page.  How about what we actually need to know, like, what is the prototype for this model?  Or what year? or what manufacturer? or........

Why did they bother to waste the ink? Or electrons....
Tom D.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

Also applicable to the BCH, CPAA, and UP artwork for the FMC cars with the centered double doors.

UP did have some similar cars with offset double doors, just like Athearn's ex-MDC model that has already been offered in UP paint (at least by MDC)...

If Athearn could pull their collective  :ashat: out of their  :ashat:, one could make a decent representation of theas cars by moving the bolsters inward and replacing the 70T trucks with 100T trucks
