Here ya go Max , the 2 brass sets from Precision Scale are the same size though the set number is different . The biggie is gray plastic . The blackies , some have stems and will not tolerate handling .

Those are pretty darn small, Richie but we're attempting another whole level of small with this effort.  The smallest handwheel above seems to be .044".  The one I was describing is already at .028" which is measurably and visually smaller.

Here are a couple of photos with the 00-90 screw from a Z coupler and a pencil point for reference.  This is one piece machined from nickel silver. (It's what I had laying around).  ;)

With the 00-90 screw.

Wow that is small .

.and we're going for less! :o ... with through holes!!! :scared:

That may not happen but we're going to try.  I just haven't done anything this small ever.  I never thought I'd be machining with a cutter where the draft from the furnace can blow the whole mess out of tolerance. :D

Yeah, Richie, those are bigger than they looked in the initial photo.
Remember, the washer I've got on there now is 0.7mm (about .027").  And it looks really good for proportion.

narrow... PM sent with my address.
And THANK YOU for working through this.  Even though it may not work out and I may just keep the washer,
it's good to know if this is even possible.

I'll get it out tomorrow, I think. :)  Don't put too much in what it shows as is other than the general size.  Now that the challenge is on my mind I'm coming up with some other possible approaches for issues that may surface.  Understand that I really would like for this to work out for you on your AMAZING project but it's also for me.  An opportunity to develop a few tricks for my own needs.  This is helping me to up my own game and to discover and resolve some equipment issues that only have surfaced because of the precision demands of this kind of work.  Under .010" cutters brings a whole new set of demands on the equipment. :)

Well it took a while for them to arrive but I had ordered some of the z scale brake wheels. And you were correct they measure .129 on the outer wheel. The center hub measures about .004  That being said I also found various model ship etching in a variety of scales that have very small items that I thought might be useful. The 1/240 scale st for the USS Olimpia has some wheels that measure .08. This is the smaller photo. Not used to posting photo's here and from phone.

Would there be a 1/700 etched kit for the USS Olympia?

.080" = 12.8", and my original "huge" attempt was about 12", so we know we have to get down to .040", just to be in the ballpark.

Having said that, the Precision Scale brass .040" hand valves came, and I am using them on my backhead work.
They are too big for the smaller hand valves, but there are some where they look good even though they are still oversized, so in they go.  And they have excellent spoke detail.  When I get this wrapped up and post more 0-6-0 photos, you'll see them.

And thank you for investigating the Z scale wheels, and the ship etched parts.  I really appreciate the fact that people have been digging around for this.  THANK YOU!

I found them surfing E bay. They are Tom's Model Works (Not Me )  1/700 Scale set # 748 INDIANAPOLIS . I picked up a few different other ones as well. This is the E Bay link I can take photos of others if you would like. Some I got just because they had some crane booms I think will scale nice.  https://www.ebay.com/itm/TOMS-MODEL-WORKS-1-700-USS-Indianapolis-Battleship-Detail-Set-TMW748/331711724076?hash=item4d3b8f3a2c:g:DRwAAOSwIwhWTQb8
