A big thanks to Peteski's incredible talent

I'd like to take this opportunity to thanks Petski , JDColombo & CN5529 Fredrick for all their help in returning my Walters Y3 to incredible  running condition.
First Fredrick who analyzed the problem of a burnt decoder caused by solidified grease in the loco causing the strain on the decoder. Second JDColombo for coming up with a new decoder to replace the fired one.
And finally Petski who convinced me not to send the loco back to Walters for what would be an inferior replacement
and volunteering to "have a go" at fixing the problem!
The job he did was nothing short of miraculous. He repaired the original decoder, re-did the wiring so it wouldn't short again and cleaned all the solidified grease out of the locomotive.
The Y 3 was returned better than new (with the Dog House attached) LOL
Today we ran the loco on Fredrick's (CN5529) Traveling Roadshow N-Trak layout. It performed flawlessly pulling 22 90 ton coal cars plus caboose. The attention it got from his fellow club members and visitors was overwhelming.

I can't thank Peteski enough for his commitment and attention to detail. He is truly an exceptional craftsman.

I'm in your debt..

Rick

@Paradise275 thanks for posting this!  I gotta tell you, I hear more and more good things about the members of this forum helping each other out without needing recognition.  It's heartwarming.

@peteski made me decals on a few occasions. He's also on Facebook and does nothing but talk ***** about the post voting system.

@Ed Kapuscinski helped me by teaching me how not to make benchwork. He also taught me on how to use letters or numbers to match parts to their mate instead of erotic symbols.

@wm3798 helped me find the only good chicken wings in Baltimore.

@Lemosteam helped me learn the havoc White Castle onions cause to ones digestive system.

Here's a Clerihew about Ed. K.

Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
But mention his law
and you've pulled your last straw!

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

Thanks for the kind words Rick! I appreciate it!  I couldn't just let a great QSI decoder be replaced with another brand - I like QSI decoders too much to let one that looked to be fixable go in the trash!  :)
I am planing on (eventually) posting a detailed write-up detailing the repair. The photos are all ready - I just have to finish the write-up.

@chicken45 : My FB presence was supposed to be a secret!   ;)  But thanks for the kudos.

Pete's a good guy. I don't care what they say he did as a kid in Poland.

:D

Pete, you did a fantastic job restoring Rick's Y3. Like you say, that QSI decoder needed to be saved. I am glad you were successful!

Because why not...

LOL Doug G.! You

Thanks CNR5529!  I'm also thrilled to see that your NTRAK club is keeping with the tradition of large gaps in the connecting tracks!  Rock on! We did the same on our NTRAK layourts last weekend's Springfield show.  :)
