The transit people wanted to blame the city for putting salt on the crossing, which we don't do. The funny thing about that is the salt helps with conductivity in water and causes the gates to come down, not stay up
Another thing is this was the same crossing from the other vid and yes, she drove into a moving train running from the cops.
You have absolutely no idea how our crossing circuits work. Salt and snow in a crossing circuit, especially the island circuit are absolutely horrible on our circuits and cause false activations. Then you get called out to said false activation and need to readjust it. Then the salt and snow make things even worse. Im pretty sure i know what happened with the transit train but will not comment on it but yes, even just the snow wreaks havoc on protected crossings.

All I know is electricity is involved and salt water is more conductive than regular water. When we plow we stop our spreaders and spinners between 50 to 100 feet from the track to help keep the salt off the crossing. We also lift our blades to keep from catching the rails. But the investigation and report did uncover that the worker did respond to a down gate that would not raise and raised the gate before checking dispatch for train movements

Yeah as soon as i saw the video for the first time, i knew who was at fault when the gates came down.
