Yeah, that makes sense. I was trying to rationalize it into being the Southwest Chief around Helendale, but the vegetation was wrong, and the Chief was SDP40Fs pretty much exclusively. This was from a railfanning trip with the guys (cropped out of the pic), but I don't recall the day's itinerary.

Plus the Pooches were fairly common on the Sunset.

I actually think it's closer to Beaumont, a fairly iconic place for SP photos, where San Timoteo Canyon Rd joins I-10.

I always liked Pooches, but can't recall ever having seen one paired with an F40ph before, only paired with another P30CH.  Cool!
