Arnold SW1 short circuit

Little help, please.

I just picked up a new Arnold SW1. Tried to try 'er out on my DCC layout, but immediately got a "short circuit" error code. Took the SW1 off and tried another analog engine, with no problem. Tried the SW1 again and got the error code. Doesn't appear to be anything on the loco bridging the rails.

Ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Jim

Is it a DC loco? Reason I ask is that there may be a choke on the board. Not sure of this but I'm sure Peteski will chime in.

Jim, what DCC system are you using?
Is  the warning showing up when the loco is put on the main line or programming track?
Is there a decoder in the loco?  It was sold as a DC loco with a dummy 6-pin plug.
Did you try it on DC?  If you don't' have a DC throttle, find a standard 9V battery and touch its terminals to the wheels.
If you have a multimeter handy (a tool every model railroader should own  :) ), measure the resistance between the left and fright side wheels.
. . . 42 . . .

Thanks for checking in, Peteski. First thing I did was scan through your wonderful dissection of this loo, but I didn't see anyone mention an issue like this.

I'm using an old Digitrax Zephyr system. The warning shows up when the engine is on the main line. I haven't had it on a programming track. (Like I said, I tried another analog engine and had no problems. Only an issue when the SW1 was on the track.)

I bought the loco (supposedly) new. I've no reason to believe it's not, but it was purchased on eBay from a hobbyshop. I haven't lifted the hood, but I can't imagine there's a decoder in there.  Hopefully there's an easy fix; if not, the seller allows returns, and has others of the same road name up for sale. I'd be happy with an exchange, if that becomes necessary.

No DC throttle handy, but I'll try the 9V test when I can, probably Sunday. And no multimeter, but I might as well pick one up.
