Copenhagen Fields superb layout

I think there was a brief mention of this UK layout recently, but I thought I would share this.  This is a 3m x 9m traveling club layout that is one of the best I have seen in N scale.  It is actually 1:152 scale, but what is also amazing is that the track work, locomotives, and rolling stock are all modified to what they call 2mm Finescale, which is probably something like an N scale version of Proto 87. The layout is set in the 1930s and Copenhagen Fields is a location in London about a mile north of Kings Cross station.  They also use forced perspective and structures in the back of the layout reduce in scale to 1:450, adding to the perception of depth and modeling a much larger area.

It looks pretty good I must say. Doesn't seem to be very operations oriented, I suppose that's because it's a display layout perhaps??  The steam engines seem to rock back and forth a lot.  Is this prototypically what British steamers do?  I'd fix 'em before I ran 'em at a show on my portable layout.

However, I really am impressed with some of the vistas the scenery work & skyboard give.  The atypical nature of it, running through a thoroughly urban environment of pre-war London is really eye-catching!

And, last but not least, I really enjoyed the music!

Cheerio!

Here's my favorite view of the layout. Looking south from the north-bound control panel.

The video was nice, but I wish that there were fewer distant shots of trains going by. I would have loved to see several railfan run-by shots (eye-level of the scale person standing closer to the tracks).  All those distant views became bit boring about half way through the video, but the music was very soothing.  :)

Like this? This is the closest anyone's ever going to get for trackside filming.

Not quite - that is still a bird's eye view. I would like a video taken from the perspective a person would see when standing 20 feet from the track on 1:1 railroad.  There are plenty of small video recorders which could be put down on the layout (if not on the scenery then on the tracks next to the track the train will be traveling on).  A video which would make you fee like you are standing on the layout.

Very nice work.

but the music was very soothing.  :)

Beethoven Sonata #15 in D, op.28, "The Pastoral".  Beethoven at his most soothing (which was rare).

Gotta love their model of LNER 4489 "Dominion of Canada", complete with CPR bell and whistle! (shows up a few times, but there is a close up right around the 7 minute mark of the first video)

I got to see the real 4489 after the restoration from BR green to LNER garter blue, last year at exporail:
