Milwaukee Road - Portage to LaCrosse - early 1950's - N Scale

My order from Arizona Rock and Mineral finally showed up this past week (ordered it in December).  I can start ballasting now.  The mains will be PRR grey, yards will be their "yard mix", and the CNW interchanges will be Pink Lady.

Now I don't have any excuse to not get the track painted....... 

Will post photos of my progress as soon as I get started.

Now that "regular" school is done for the summer (I still have parade band rehearsals until the end of June on Tuesday and Thursday mornings), I have some time to work on the layout.

I put down a sandy brown color to match the soil of the area between Portage and LaCrosse and got a little ground cover down as well. I'll need to add some hills and valleys eventually, but this is a start. The entire Fort McCoy side of the penninsula is painted.

There will be static grass added to this preliminary ground cover as well eventually.

I finished up the ballast through Fort McCoy this morning.

Placed the buildings back where they will eventually go as well.

Lots of scenery work to do yet on this portion of the layout, but it's nice to be making some progress.

I painted the track on the Camp Douglas side of the peninsula this morning; the entire peninsula now has its track painted.  I need to let it cure before I add ballast and ground cover.

Painted the foam up to New Lisbon.  The backdrop will need a little touch up from the track color overspray.  Ballast will go down next.

I ran out of ground cover, so until my order arrives, I'm taking a short break before moving on to New Lisbon.
