I say I model PRR in 1954, but there's some fudge-factor in that claim. For example, I still run HH1's, which were gone by '49. So, as some of the other members suggested, it's more of a spread than a year. For PRR at least, 1954 (give or take  :) ) allows me to run a nice mix of steam and early diesels. Remember, first-and-foremost, it's your railroad. Regardless of what year or span of time you model, there's always room for the equipment you like that's outside that range, if you so desire.

I "target" 1950. I'm fleixible on specific equipment I want to run, but I use "how far off from 1950 is this" as a guide. That establishes a look and feel, but gives me some leeway to run some of the things I want to, like solid FOM trains. Of course, I can excuse a lot of things with my alternate history.

Thanks again for the ideas... Still researching and coming back up to speed on things Pennsy...

A couple of clarifications:

  - pre 1948 heavyweight cars had no stripes and would marked on the main letter board as Pullman (as appropriate)?

  - 1954 saw the start of the Shadow Keystone scheme?

Logic is telling me to go 1952-1954, but the history buff in me is saying WW2.  Dual era might make sense since a lot or most stuff from the 40's would still be running in the 1950's.

I'd like to snatch a couple more M1's and K4's so I am thinking Pre-war is better although the differences are pretty minor...
