Personally I like them.

They help motivate me to contribute positively (not the only factor but yeah  :D) and keep me from being too much of a complainer/smartass.  ;)

Just my humble opinion but I think its a positive feature of the forum...

That is perfectly fine, but time and time again I see someones post which contains factual information and no negativity or trolling voted down, probably because some other member simply disagrees with the factual information in that post.  To me that is bull!  It is not about respect anymore - it is simply a sign of someone not liking that info (or maybe accidentally hitting the down-vote button?).

Bob: Your idea is clever but IMO way too complex.  I don't think the forum software is capable of doing that.  To me this whole up- and down-voting thing smells too much like Facebook.

Ed likes it because it has made his life easier , that's enough for me .
I only use it maybe once every 2 weeks or so .
I think some others over use it .
Many use it and supply an explanation as well .
I think any down vote deserves a public exploitation as the down vote is a blight on someone publicly viewed .

Never was.

It's a self policing measure that's work very well except for the obsessing over random single down votes that don't mean anything.

Well then, like I wrote earlier, change the frickin' name to something other than respect. Make it popularity or likability, karma, or something else other than respect.

This makes the forum akin to a Roman Colossalsemen , live on with respect or not so much . We are the posters IUD .

I can't take the credit for that side-splitter - Richie wrote that.   But I did start this whole thread, if that counts?  :D
