I have one Code 55 Atlas curved turnout that was causing issues - after listening to TRW sages I found the issue (one side was slightly too high and the throw bar was offset), fixed the problems and have, for the most part had no issues since.... except.... it appears that the last car of a consist, in my case the caboose, likes to "bounce" as it runs through the turn out. Specifically when running from the switch end, either route and when the wheel git the end of the points the car "bounces".....

Rarely does this cause a derailment, but it looks.... well.... dumb.... I can't see what is causing it.... anyone got a idea?????  :?

Have you checked the gauge of the track in the turnout?

Put the caboose 2 cars up and see if the last car or the caboose hops . If the car hops now you may need those wheel axle point springs to add some drag . If the caboose still hops 2 cars up you must try looking into it closer .

If the caboose has metal wheels, maybe they're out of gauge.

Do ALL last cars bounce, or just one particular caboose?  If the latter, probably a problem with the car, but if the former, clearly a problem with the turnout.  Does the caboose bounce if you back into the turnout?  Or free roll it?

If it is determined to be the car, I had issues with a few coupler trip pins that cleared everything on my trackwork except a couple Atlas turnouts- caused similar symptoms.

Do you need to round off the ends of the points?  Perhaps cars in the train are held down by the tension on the coupler and bounce un-noticed to the side to clear the point, but the last car, not held down, picks it a bit, maybe even just on one side.  Not enough to derail it but enough to bounce it.

That might be it... it's always the last car, regardless of what car that may be.

Could the wheels be dropping into the frog, assuming that they're low profile and perhaps narrow-tread? Maybe there's enough tension on all but the last car to keep this from happening to the others...or not as much?
