Weekend Update 11/8/15

I mounted my turnout slide switches under the turnout on my On30 Layout that is now defunct.
Here is a couple of pics to show how. They also were wired to provide power to the frog.
Might give you some ideas.

They were actuated by attaching a piece of wire from the switch then out through the fascia and a wooden knob added to the end.
They worked very reliably.

I did something similar to that on my previous layout, but on this one I didn't want anything protruding out from the facia except the control panel.  I like the simplicity of the SPDT switch, but on the new layout I went all in with tortoise  and LED's and one single control point.  BUT now I am adding a couple of spurs and don't want to use tortoise on them, so....    change of methods!!!

No modeling for me this weekend. I attended the NRHS model train show at the New York State Exposition displaying the NTRAK carnival modules with the circus and carnival folks (separate from the NTRAK layout set up at the show).

The show was fun and I also had a chance to get close and personal with some 1:1 railroad displays in the back ot the exposition grounds.

This was my first close encounter with a real GG1.  That thing is big!

HI Pete wish I would have known that you were at the Syracuse Fairgrounds train show.  I would have liked to meet you.  I belong to the Salt City NTrak club that puts on the NTrak layout that was at the show.  We are there every year.  They use to have two of the GG1's there, the one that is gone is all black with small white Conrail markings.

You're right, I didn't even thing of mentioning on TRW that I will be there.  I didn't think about it. I did visit your NTRAK layout few times and spoke to few members too (I'm bad with names and I don't remember their names).  The module with a helicopter which had spinning rotor was really nice, and so was the winter scene diorama.  There were also many other nice modules there.

We might come out there next year and that time participate in the NTRAK layout.

Too bad about the other GG1. It must have been a sight to have 2 GG1s at the same location.

yes that is a nice module. mine was the one that had a building and some trucks on it. under con. it will be a truck stop I hope to have it done  by the summer. the layout was clubs from ny,penn,ohio,and cannada. on the CR GG1 it went to a rail museum.

Maybe I'll see you at the next year's show.  Good to know that the other GG1 was not scrapped.

It must have been a sight to have 2 GG1s at the same location.

You can see this at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg.  One (PRR #4935 a/k/a "Blackjack") is in immaculate condition; the other (PRR No. 4800 a/k/a "Old Rivets") not so much.
