The BRC cars were bought second hand by Soo line, and ran for years with a quick patch job...
High on my wish list, thanks Craig!!

CP block is a must have for me. Interesting fact on the arrangement of hopper doors on this car.

In one of my Clinchfield books, there is a picture of a local with a Burlington Chinese Red hopper in the train. Go figure...

Did the CB&Q mix the hoppers from CB&Q and C&S, or where they used separately, i.e. in unit trains by either CB&Q and C&S?

I know that C&S was just a subsidiary, but coal trains are usually solid unit trains.

BTW, the CB&Q and C&S hopper hasn't been a popular car judging from the lack of photos. I just found one or two pictures in the Morning Sun book.

The dearth of C&S photos is more likely due to the remoteness of the railroad rather than current popularity issues. Unit coal trains as we know them today, one train from one mine to one destination and back again, didn't really catch on until the 1960s. Blocks of coal mixed into regular manifest freights used to be much more common than it is now. The Burlington Route roads including CB&Q, C&S and Fort Worth & Denver seemed to be pretty good about pooling equipment, if only to keep the per diem charges for needed cars in the family.
