We don't need Charlie (although we like him
)
We just need Spookshow.
http://www.spookshow.net/mrc284.htmlIt is a case of different manufacturers passing around/selling/obtaining the same molds.
The loco started off being made by MRC. Key- has plastic siderods.
This version also has plastic gears. As seen by taking the bottom cover plate off.
Later, Rivarossi got the molds and went to metal sidderods.
Spook does not mention the gears. I'm not surprised they went to metal.
The transition gears are odd (not what we normally see in N scale.
They are small, but VERY fat.
Actually, I guess I could use a brass gear too.
By Monday, I'll see if I can get a photo up of the gear in question.
