I've heard that they can be replaced with Atlas trucks (which are still not completely correct in appearance), but I was wondering if anyone has attempted to completely cut off the front and rear cross braces on the sideframe castings. These cross braces have brake shoe details on them on the LL model but the shoe details were left off on the Walthers reincarnation, I'm assuming to address the lack of brake hardware there on the prototype. Cutting these cross braces off seems easy enough, but I wonder about remaining strength of the sideframes. Anyone ever try this? BTW, I am still completely amazed with these locos in appearance and (DC) performance (mine are all older LL versions). The relief detail on the shell and the accuracy and application of the paint is outstanding.

Thanks!
