Diaphragms: What would you do?

In short, how do you mount ALM diaphragms?
I'm in a situation where I'll have to either file the top of the frame down to match the car, or file the bottom for coupler clearance.
Is there a best practice for this?

He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

And I'm posting this just to get it out of the way.

It depends on the model in question. Kato, you remove all existing diaphragm relief. MTL, you fill the channel with styrene strip. Atlas/RivaRossi, you remove all existing detail. Lima/model power heavyweights, remove existing detail.

It's for my P70s (Lima/MP) and the Hell Gate B60b and BM70bk stuff.

So Bryan, you say remove what's there already...you're saying to remove that whole lip and mount the frame flush with the car side?
