Anyway, small DMX controller panels can be surprisingly inexpensive. The Chauvet Obey 4 is a basic controller yet has fade scripting and special effects. The real work is being done in the DMX lamp drivers such as the ones I mentioned from superbrightleds, the controller is just the human interface. If I were doing soffits with lighting strips, frankly, I would definitely look at this combo.

OK so now this is getting my attention.

So take this   RGB LED Light Strip and wire it up to this Chauvet Obey 4(Controller) and this Decoder (Interface and power)

Is there anything I'm missing? Again I don't need a ton of lighting for a 8x10 shelf layout using soffits. Example would be looking to have about 5-8 strips powered and controlled by one controller.

You got it. This decoder will likely work for you. It tops out at 4 amps per color, which should be enough for about 30 feet of RGB strip. Don't forget you'll need a 12-15A 12VDC power supply to feed the decoder.
