Unbelievable Pennsy Hawtness

I know this has been posted in years past and is probably not news to any true SPF, but in 1985-6 Strasburg paired their two operating Pennsy engines, the 80-inch drivered E7s 4-4-2 #7002 and D16sb 4-4-0 #1223 and ran them at track speed over Amtrak's Keystone Corridor and the Conrail C&PD branch.

If ever I want a reminder of why I love Pennsy, I can watch this throwback to the Standard Era of the Standard Railroad of the World, America's Broad Way of Commerce, the mighty, incomparable Pennsylvania Rail Road.

But, perhaps less well known is this awesome color clip of Pennsy mainline steam in the 1940s.

And some 50s/60s action.

In the name of the Curve, the Slope, and the Four Track Main.  Amen!

I have to say, I'm neither an East Coast RR fan or a steam fan (you're welcome to shun me now), but that video of the 40s in color was pretty cool.  If I was forced to model this era, I'd have to choose the massive locos from the heyday and twilight of steam.  Thanks for the videos!

That filthy stack on #7002 would not have been permissible on the PRR - the fireman would have been disciplined first by the hogger and then more severely by the railroad management.  You probably couldn't even qualify for the job unless you knew how to keep the fire clean under most circumstances.

I know they did it for effect on the rail fan excursion.

Too bad that 1361 will never be put back together again, much less run.
