Yeah, I guess my answer was more to whether or not there is room for another manufacture to make a 50' PS-1 which obviously I think there is.

As for modeling, I'll never be short of projects, so I'm open to anyone manufacturer that wants to help me out.

edit:  for those that don't know what I'm talking about -

It's missing the over hanging roof which you can see here:

Someone tell me I couldn't sell a ***** ton of those.  :)

Nice car Jason.
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

This thread makes me happy & sad.

I appreciate the education I receive by the folks that know the category.

I cringe though when I look at my 50' boxcar fleet.  Now that the 40' boxcar category has been upgraded by Atlas & others, my 50' boxcar fleet is probably the worst on the layout when it comes to ride height, roof-walk thickness and having dimensions that are accurate.

I can think of several other 50's and 60's cars I'd like to see done or that haven't been done. But when you consider the sheer numbers and schemes on the 50' PS1, there may be room for another manufacturer.

One easy kit-bash is to substitute a MTL  PS-1 underframe in the Athearn/Roundhouse body.  The MTL one does have better detail.

Considering MTL's cars are "not good enough" and the Athearn/MDC cars, while offering three door options, don't offer all the variety of doors within those options, I'd say "Hell ya'!" there's a need for another manufacturer (Atlas, naturally, would be my choice) to take up the 50' PS1 mantle (and offer all those aforementioned missing options).
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
