Con Cor F3s by Fleischmann and Roco- dimensions

Hi

I am just trying to get some idea of what height, width and length the shell of this loco was.  I had one years ago, and recall it being way too big for N ... this was to fit it on a European chassis, like Marklin's awful Z F7 or similar things done in TT over the years.

Best not to ask why I want to know.

Regards,

Benjamin

Scaro, they're pretty much the same dimensions as any other F unit of the period. The inside width is .704,outside is .812... 4.032 long outside,.782 high.I'm actually doing two ABA sets right now.I have a few Life Like F7's in CNJ blue, and CNJ mixed them with their F3's,so I'm doing an ABA in orange & blue, and a set of O&W's.I already have Intermountain green ABBA's,and an ABA set of Kato orange & blue CNJ's,these are just to run with the F7's.I may do a green & yellow A&B,too.I have my own pilot castings to update the crappy ROCO pilots..I'm updating the wheels with blackened Life Like's..

hi lou

thanks for that.  they'd be too small for what I want to do with them.

as for mixing blue CNJ F7s with their F3s, i think a question re the chances of seeing the two together was raised before on one of the yahoo CNJ forums and as i recall, the conclusion was that these locos sort of missed each other.

the F3s went in trade to EMD for the SD35s in mid-late 1965 and i think blue leased B&O F7s came along in early 1966.  there's a photo from jan 1966 in pg 90 of 'jersey central lines in color vol 3', but it's at allentown.  i am not sure it was one of the leased units. they were repainted and renumbered to CNJ only in december 1967.  also one N&W unit, 3715, was briefly repainted as CNJ 27 but this was reversed as apparently the locos were not technically N&W's to lease in the first place, or some other complication, due to the N&W only having leased but not bought the wabash, which owned the units.  allegedly there are photos of CNJ 27 in CNJ blue (ie, B&O blue) renumbered and with the miss liberty herald, but they are rare. CNJ had to repaint the unit back into N&W black with imitation gold lettering.

cheers, benjamin
