Ex-Pennsy D Class

Always heard of shortlines buying second hand locomotives but have rarely seen PRR steamers. KISHOACOQUILLAS VALLEY No 1033...

Hard to believe this little line (9 miles) had 1032 previous locomotives :)
High numbers like this remind me of the middle aged guy counting push-ups at the gym when the pretty girl walks in... 1, 2, 3, 104, 105, 106. I'll bet the number and the plate are unchanged from Pennsylvania service.

There used to be a website devoted to the KVRR, but I can't find it now.  There's a book out there, though.

The KVRR had trackage rights for a time over Pennsy's Milroy Secondary to bring passengers into Lewistown.

EDIT:  Jerry's Keystone Crossings site has a bit on the KVRR:

Dave, thanks for that link. I especially liked the paragraphs on the Studebaker for passenger service/freight. Pennsylvania's version of the "Gallopin' Goose"

The H Class was the favorite. My own hometown shortline, the Bellefonte Central, bought at ton of ex Pennsy steamers from H1s all the way to H9s with a few G1s and a D6 to round it off. Other roads included the Susquehanna River & Western, some railroad with Allegheny in its name I can't remember, and others. The L1 also was sold to various regional railroads like the Cambria and Indiana, and 2 even went to the ATSF. A few K4s were actually sold to the N&W.

I wonder if they bought it in October of 1933?  The idea of keeping the Pennsy number is more likely, but I've heard of short lines numbering locos based on purchase date.

From Keystone Crossings: 1033 4-4-0 1930-1940 Built by Altoona Shops (c/n 1409) in 1905 as PRR D16b No.1033. Later it was stored at Hollidaysburg, Pa., where it was bought by the KV for $4,000. After abandonment it was thought to have been sold to another railroad.
