DCC Newbie has Rule 17 question

Folks I am new to this DCC world so be gentile.

I am having trouble understand the information in Decoder manual for my Digitrax DN163KA0 decoder  I want to implement Rule 17 headlight control and the manual says it to program CVs 49/50 to 104 and 120.  OK, I understand that, but then it starts talking about wires  (blue, yellow, white).  My loco is a stock Kato P42. It has ditchlights, but they run of the headlight not a separate light source.

Do I have to add wires to pads on the decoder to make this work and where do they go ??  Anyone have and pictures that might help if that is the case?

Thanks for your help....

Ed, the plug-n-play decoder you are using has the headlight LEDs hardwired on the decoder.  They are equivalent to F0-forward and F0-reverse functions - which on a wired decoder would be represented by white and yellow wires (plus the blue common positive lead).  Knowing that should help you in setting up the Rule 17 lighting.  Whatever settings are mentioned for using headlights on F0/F and F0/R will work on for the headlights on your decoder.

But if you run the ditch lights from the headlight function then the ditch lights will just copy the functions of the headlights (not sure if you want to do it that way).
