What has a better chance of being produced??

What has a better chance of being produced in N scale.  NP's "North Coast Limited" or CP's "The Canadian." I would love to have both trains.

I'd say The Canadian. There are a lot of CP guys out there. Not to put down the NP in any way, but the CP Mafia is pretty big... and good chance Rapido will do it some day in N.

I am sure I've read it some where that Rapido say re the Canadian in N'scale, 'it is just a matter of time'.

Jason at Rapido has said that it's in their long term plans. That said, the "Canadian" has several advantages over the NCL (which I would scoop up in a nano second too) The Canadian offers the mfg no less than three distincy liveries, the as delivered 1955 tuscan script, the 1968 CP Rail Multi mark and the mid 70's converstion to VIA Rail, plus othr minor changes along it's 58 year history. This means more potential sales for the guy dropping the big bucks for the molds. The locomotives are already out (IM's FP7's and FP9's) so you need not tool a loco, which IMHO is why Kato hasn't jumped on it.

And that really is a terrifying prospect, Pud, seeing as I can easily find a need for the VIA version, but also I want the Multimark version. This would not be cheap.

Never had any interest in the NP until I visited their territory in western N Dakota and Washington State, which lead me to purchase the Dale Saunder's fine book on the road. Impressive operation they had and very attractive image. Could never justify an NCL, though.

I thought Con Cor offered Budd cars, so you Canuks already have a Canadian.  Why not just be satisfied with that?

Weeeeelllll........ mainly because not one Con Cor Budd car is really right for the "Canadian"... yes; Budd built them but the two sleepers are unique, as is the mid train skyline dome, the end domes are way, way different and the coach is off as well... come to think of it it you look at the Con Cor and kato sets you won't find one car right - not even the kato diner, which I managed to modify.....

So we done did need new tooling partner !

I'd really rather see him finish that GMD-1.  I don't model passenger fleets - or Canadian roads for that matter - but that's a cool looking locomotive.

Right after Kato gets done with the late Hiawatha, NCL and EB, no problem.

As I understand it the NP FP sets were not used on the NCL as they were bought for branch line runs and I believe their number were very small, 2 or 3 units maybe.  You would want to go with the F3 or F7 units straight up, which have been done by IM and could be easily done by Kato.

I wouldn't be adverse to Kato doing a FP, considering IMRC's are costly and not available in undec.  I wish Kato would do an E6 and E7 too.

I wanted to answer this question the best way I knew how.  So, I decided to visit the local medium (Madame Abdoo) to get her to use her mystical powers to tell me which train would be produced first.  I decided to take my good friend and model railroader Nate with me because, frankly, I was a little bit antsy about going to visit a medium all by myself.

My appointment was for 8:00PM and Nate and I knocked on her door...but nobody was there, then we saw a little sign that said "Come on in!"...so we opened the door and went in. 

It was really dark in the hallway, with candles on little shelves on the walls being the only light.  I said "Hello!  Is anybody here??"...and we heard laughing. 

It wasn't weird laughing, but really happy laughing, so we followed the sound and found our medium sitting behind a table with a big crystal ball in front of her...and she was laughing.

I introduced us to her, and told her that we had an 8:00PM appointment and only needed an answer to one question, but she kept giggling as I tried to talk to her!  It was really distracting, so I tried again when she finally stopped giggling, and she just sat there with a big, happy smile on her face.

I asked her "Madame Abdoo, a thread on therailwire.com has come up questioning which of these N scale model passenger trains will be most likely to be produced..."  She burst out laughing...!!

I waited until she stopped and continued on "Will it be the NP North Coast Limited, or CP's The Canadian??"...and she started laughing again!!

All of a sudden Nate jumped up and started swinging his fists at her!!  She just kept laughing, her eyes watering...and dodging his fists!!  The louder she laughed the more Nate tried to hit her!!!

I was totally immobilized...but I came out of my unbelieving daze and grabbed Nate...and dragged him out the front door!  Madame Abdoo kept laughing....

As Nate and I hurried to the car, I asked him "Nate, what on earth was THAT all about????"

To which he just said "You know me, always trying to hit a happy medium..."

I guess I'll never know which of these passenger trains is the most likely to be produced in N scale....
