since i am only 27, the layouts i admire most are alot more recent. lance mindheim and his east rail layout blew me away. also the dude doing  a n scale version of the milwaukee beer line here is also fascinating.

Otto Kroutil, Bill Pearce, and Ted Yorks layouts plain and simple

Ive had the GMR that featured Otto and Bills layouts for years and it sits on my bookshelf for good reference. I also have the N-scale that featured Pine Lodge since i was a kid. Its what made me want to model Cajon Pass. Thanks Otto

Also the late David Haines layouts were also amazing!

Have been inspired by many of the same layouts as listed by the others. But the layout that moved this then 13 y/o (1961) from running trains to building railroads was the Kalmbach HO Railroad that grows. The concept of track design as a fluid part of the layout and that the ability to build a changeable layout would really add to the time it was fun to have and operate.

The layout that inspired me to take up this hobby was John Allen's Gorre & Daphetid. One photo of the layout in particular, a view of Robison Cliff in Model Railroader. That was a few decades ago.

There have been a few since then, but none of them had the same impact.

I think it's still open....  Haven't been there in a number of years now though....

I only live about 15 miles north of it.

Still there and packed when I drove by the other week. Funny I live 30 min from there and I have yet to see it.

The first fully scenicked large layout I ever saw was in the home of the owner of the first train store I remember going to, Charlie Farmer of Elmira NY.
After that were a number of layouts from both MR and RMC. Particularly the Crooked Mountain Lines, the Sunset Valley, the V&O and the Clinchfield. The NEB&W which I was fortunate enough to see in person.
In addition, my family was on a trip to England. We had a couple of hours to kill so we happened upon a local show in Harrogate where I was blown away by what they could do in a small portable layout.

Pelle Søeborg's Layout has inspired my western low desert modules.  He captures it like no one I have ever seen!  Here's some links to my work.

Aside from the inspiration I get from all you  :ashat: 's on parade here, I own only two Allen Keller videos, The Cumberland Valley and Lance Mindheim's Monon.

The first N scale layout's that inspired me was the Clinchfield, then the Reid Brothers and now for all its awesomeness Jim Reising's layout. I love the look of long trains through his great scenery. That being said everyone that has a layout on The Railwire inspires me to keep plugging away. J
