I maintain a blog for my model railroad at
http://jbritton.pennsyrr.com, but since I am kicking the tires on RailWire since the demise of the Atlas Forum, here goes...
I am building a multi-level HO scale model railroad set in central Pennsylvania during the early 1950s. It follows the prototype as best as possible.
The four-track main line is presented as a 120 foot oval around the basement, including a 19 track staging yard. Only half of the main line is actually visible, and features the Lewistown station and LEWIS interlocking. At Lewistown there is a junction yard which feeds three secondaries. The yard itself has more than a dozen tracks, a 120' turntable, and small round house. In addition to serving power for the secondaries, the locomotive facility provides standby power for the main line.
The Lewistown Secondary connects the junction yard with downtown Lewistown, where there is a small yard and the Furnace Branch siding. There are about a dozen businesses served by rail.
Beyond Lewistown is a junction which feeds the Selinsgrove & Lewistown Secondary (staging) and the Milroy Secondary. The latter is the true focus of operations. Nearly all of the locations on the 11 mile branch will be represented. Two huge customers are Standard Steel in Burnham/Yeagertown and a Bethlehem Steel quarry at Naginey. On the prototype, the steel plant was good for 30 cars a day and the quarry 50 cars. Most of the limestone was shipped west to Bethlehem's plants in Johnstown.
Halfway up the branch, at the town of Reedsville, is the junction with the Kishacoquillas Valley Railroad. It went belly up in 1941, but in my world it was bought at auction and has a second life as the freelance Pennsylvania Midland Railroad. The PM runs between Reedsville and Huntingdon and has a connection to the Bellefonte Central via Pine Grove Mills.
I am 18 months into construction and have two of the switching areas on the Milroy laid out and operational. Right now I am working on a mountain scene which is ready for plastering...
If any interest is expressed, I will post updates here as well.
