88'in nose with Brakewheel...for KATO SD40-2

Apart from buying a bunch of the new run with the 88' nose w/ brakewheel.  Any ideas on how to get one of these done?  I tried chopping snoots but the result is not as desired.  Also tried to Atas SD50 part, which was too narrow.

Thoughts?

Sand the inside of the Atlas nose, and file some of the frame on the SD40-2.

Its going to be way cheaper this way, otherwise you'll be paying $35 a shell for Kato shells just for the nose.

Atlas
cab is correct for Atlas nose.  Fit isues will be at the back of the cab so removing a bit from the Atlas cab and glass will be necessary.  This is probably less than noticeable on a layout but photography might reveal the
Only you can decide if this sort of Kludge is something you can live with.

Its just too bad we don't have the Nscale equivalent of Cannon and Company...

Will, when I did FEC 714 I used a snoot rear carbody and the nose from an Algoma SD-40 with the splice at mid cab. Looks good but  forgot to plate out the lever and add the brake wheel before sending it for paint. Bob.

What trouble are you having cutting back the snoot? Mine turned out satisfactorily, but I had to glue the nose to the cab.

Since the SD40-2a all use the same walkway with tread ( possible exception would be the newest version) I would just shorten the the snoot.if you do it right at the cab it will be hidden anyway.
