Saw some pre-production models today in our colors.  IMO they look really really great.  I'm really excited to get a set for my desk.

I guess I've lived the foamers dream, from hobbyist, to 1:1 designer, to seeing it back in 1:160, my scale.  Got to admit it brings a big smile to me tbh.

You know, with a little modeler license - I could justify a VRE commuter into Brunswick :)

What suprised me was that they tooled a new body for the VRE version. The roof, rear door, and radiator grilles are completely different. There are shots up on Kato's site showing the difference.

Well John, you could say that one of your lines goes to Richmond and run them there.

Whilst of no use to me I certainly can admire the really fine job Kato has done on those. One thing that always bugs me and it is by no means a game breaker is their end sturups; with the fine details they are now  applying, the end ladders look "chunky"... guess that's the price of improvement !  :D

Certainly a unit-in-transit, car or power, could be in that yard, and in fact has once or twice over the years if my memory is right.

A very plausable possabillity.  Both in models and in the real eventually (stress eventually).

They are really beautiful models.

Slightly off-topic, but I wonder if Kato will ever do Caltrain.

Strictly speaking the Caltrain MP36s seem to mainly pull the Bombardier bi-levels (already produced by Athearn), but Caltrain do have Nippon Sharyo cars too.

I model Tehachapi, but I think I would have to do a Caltrain commuter station module (like San Jose) if they do release them in Caltrain.
