A bunch of us on another site, has convinced Tom @ 2scalemodels to consider producing the GMC "New Look" Transit Bus, here are some pictures of the almost completed master.  By the end of next week a completed master with all the details should be completed and then after that  he will be producing these in limited batches.

More details will follow.

Not bad.  Looks like they will be resin models.  Is the master out of clay or wax?  If the castings will be solid, have him consider making them out of clear resin so that light can pass through.  Blacked-out windows would be far more noticeable on a Fishbowl bus than it would on other N scale vehicles.

I'll need 3 or 4 of these - they will fit nicely in as their prototypes ran into the early 1990's in Baton Rouge.

Definitely a useful addition, I can use a few.

I agree clear resin would be the best material if possible.

Cheers,

Kev

1) Tom of Made2scalemodels is an eBay seller based in Canada who makes resin vehicles, mainly from the from the 40's-60's with a few modern stuff.

2) I am not sure of the type of material that will be used for the master, but like here the general consensus from the group on the other forum I participate on is that these should be made from clear resin.

Here is his current offering, feel free to drop a line about this project with suggestions, pics and so forth.  His email addy is at the bottom of the pic.

Possibly
in for a bunch of rejects.  I recall a huge field of these, long out of service in faded RTD brown parked side by side somewhere near the LA harbour...

I have bought a 54 Chevy and a 54 Hudson off of him.  The paint jobs are beautiful on them,
although I am not a big fan of glossy finishes on small scale models.
Casting with clear resin is difficult as the resin is never pefectly clear.  Plus, you will then expect to
see seats and passengers through the windows.  If I were to buy something
like that bus, I would carefully hollow it out with a Dremel tool and scratch build an interior
for it.  I've used this technique on many solid resin vehicles to improve their looks.

Now all we need is an RTS bus. I hope he sells these undecorated.

The GMC New Look bus is an excellent candidate for a model in N Scale.  They served cities all across Canada and the United States from the 1960s to the 1990s.  West Vancouver Transit still has one for parades and special events.

I recently purchased several resin vehicles from Tom and I was pleased with the quality.  The windows were painted dark grey and from a distance they look good.  They may not quite be foreground models, but they are better than a lot of other resin vehicles I have seen, and the Ford Thunderbird, Chevy pickup and Pontiac Bonneville are welcome additions to a very short list of available 1960s and 1970s vehicles.

Update:  The plan is to have these cast as clear resin, but right now Tom is having a hard time finding a good source for clear resin.  So if you guys know of any place, let me know and I'll pass it along.

Smooth-on.com. I use their resin, and I like it. They have clear as well.
