This sucks more and more. Since this topic was started I have needed to use the index like 5-6 times.  I have plans for stuff I want to build, but no way to find it.

Put it on a CD and I'll buy the thing!!!   >:(

I just hope that at some point the Kalmbach folks will decide to put up a subscription site with the actual articles up.  I'd gladly pay to have access to their out-of-print back issues.  Harper's magazine has one up for subscribers that's really impressive.

Personally, I hate keeping back issues of magazines around.  I recently started going through my 20 year library of MRs and snipping the articles I want to keep.  The rest is going in the green bin at the curb.  Just in doing that, I've been amazed at how many articles from the last few years I still want around.  It's not like save-rate of the early issues, but far more than I had expected.

Latest update, reported by Model Railroad Hobbyist:

Information was received this evening from  Milwaukee that Kalmbach has
agreed to a proposal in which  NMRA will assume responsibility for
restructuring and  maintaining the model railroad magazine index. Presumably it will  be
accessible to the public.

I'd bet they will make it only accessible to NMRA members.

Ed,
If the NMRA did that they'd be just as FUBAR'ed as Kalmbach is.  There's noway I can see them doing that to themselves.  After all, their research library collection is open to anyone . . .
