ESM XIH paint/print test shots, take two

The redo of the XIH painting/printing body samples arrived today.  Next is the approval of the fully-assembled cars-in-package a month from now, and then production goes into full swing.  The solid color cars were fine; the masked cars were what had to be redone.  Here are the two masked schemes from the upcoming first release:

The paint separations are crisp around the intricate side relief, and the heavy application of paint is gone.  Hopefully everyone will be pleased with the finished product.

Here is a mock-up of the original Magor car, sans brass parts and brakewheel and paint on the underframe.  I didn't think of it in time for the first two releases, but the underframe probably will be black plastic instead of having to be painted black starting with the third release.  This scheme will appear in the second release, which will follow six to eight weeks after the first group:

With any luck, the packaged samples (which represent fully-assembled models) will be in hand in time for the N Scale Collectors convention at the end of June.  Lots of schemes and roadnames to follow, including a few unexpected surprises.

lol ... 2010 vs 1972 ;)

Agreed that these are cool. I just might have to trade in one of my foob versions for one of these.

So what are the odds that these things would have visited southern Ontario in the late 1980's in any form or scheme? I really don't need one per see, however I do like shiny objects and those are pretty shiny!

Nice job Brian... I already have one of your gons (CR) and it is a really nice car and a very, very much needed addition to the weak gon offerings in N (weak as in not much to choose from that is proto). Too bad (for me) that you don't model Canadian stuff because you could have a field day with all the CDN equipment that is not made in N... of course same could be said for US equipment in N.

Mike,

Out of the first release, maybe the all-red BAR cars, but not in the just-repainted configuration that is on the model.  You'll have to age it 15 years and remove the roofwalk.

Wait until the third XIH release early in Jan/Feb 2011.  Also the 4th through 7th releases when they appear.  You might see something to your liking.  8)
