I got it today and I highly recommended. Its well research with some really good info on steel production, best book from the Kalmbach I have read in a while and a bargain for about twenty bucks.
Which ever side of the track I am on is the right side.

I just finished reading it through today, and I've got to say, I am thoroughly impressed.

All the is were dotted and the ts were crossed. I now understand a LOT more about the steel making process, and how RRs work with it.

The only thing I would've liked would've been more coverage on the steel mill periphery industries. I feel that a  fully integrated, merchant, or even mini-mill is one of those things that far too complex to find a good home on most layouts, however, the peripheral industries (by-product sales, etc...) sound like they'd be IDEAL layout industry candidates, and I'd love to learn more about THOSE.

I too skimmed my copy last night. The books is well laid out, and makes very good use of graphics and drawings. More importantly, the numerous track plans included will help me plan my steel mill section on my layout .. Good job B ..

I skimmed thru one real quick and it looks great. I doubt seriously I will ever model a stell mill itself but the info about the industry is reason enough to buy the book.

Agree with all of the above. Even though I doubt I'll ever have the space to model a steel mill, I genuinely with I could because I'm fascinated by them. This is an excellent resource, concise yet comprehensive, and easy to digest. Well done, Bernie!

I've been reading it as my commuting book on Metro - I get a chapter done a day.  I have absolutely zero plans to model a steel mill, but Its such a great read that I don't really care.
