A couple of weeks ago I pulled an all-nighter to shoot a rare sight for Morehead City, NC:  a mile and a half long train loaded with rail bound for Atlanta.

Check out the loading on that truck in the last shot.

The train ended up blocking US 70 Eastbound for about two hours early that Monday morning.  My biggest headache came from the batteries' death.

BTW, this was my first experiment with night photography.

A Tripod and faster shutter speed would improve those next time you head out after dark.
if you can't conduct yourself, conduct freight

I agree, but I'd go with a tripod and a LONGER shutter speed. Then you'd get something like this (which I didn't crop...ignore the dead space below the train)

Lenny, did you increase the saturation on your photo by any chance? That blue hurts my eyes!  :o

Not generally possible at night unless there's a _lot_ of light and the subject is still or very slow.

That poor 8803 really does look disrespected! All the patches and alterations... still better than getting DFed though!

Was told that it has been on the Rock Runner for the last couple weeks.  Once train last week had 2 Conrail painted units on the head.  Missed it, of course.
