To my knowledge, there has never been a yard near Airey. They have been clear cutting some of the woods along the ROW there. Although it does look like railroad tracks, I am wondering if what we are seeing is some kind of mechanized transportation, ATVs, bulldozers, etc. tracks.

Looks like it was just cleared out for the telephone poles.

Ditto.  What you're looking at is tire ruts.  The widened cut in the trees is probably just from a logging operation, or just opening up some visibility through there, or the property along the track is too mushy to support trees.  Actually, on closer inspection, it's probably a right of way for farm equipment to move between fields without getting on the state roads.  There's a bunch of isolated fields that get farmed by operators who just move from one area to another.

The only yard of any scale was in Cambridge proper between Cedar Street and Maryland Ave, where the old PRR depot still stands, but there's little other evidence that a railroad existed, thanks to the condo building sleazebags that ... well, it's a long story, but we won't go there.

Back when the Phillips Packing Company was running full tilt, there would be as many as 8 trains a day going in and out of Cambridge.  The 1940's would be a very interesting time to model.

How long will it be before they show us how to add DCC to a tree?

look closely.  those "tracks" don't seem to have any switches, or ties, nor do they connect to anything.  If you start looking south, they don't quite look like tracks anymore.

If you're really picky, you'd also see that the "tracks" are also not the same gauge as the actual track next to it.

Indeed. Just zoom back and pan east, and it becomes clear what's going on.
