I understand that the Conrail logo looks like a can opener, so I understand that reference.  My question is what was the significance of the two wheels on rails with the 90-degree pie cut?  In other words, if you look close, it is like you are looking through one wheel on rail at the other wheel on rail.  But why the pie cut?
