If I was a Reading Caboose...

...before the advent of the green and yellow scheme, what color would my roof be?
Fallen Flags offers only two views of the red caboose scheme, one is a wood caboose with a black roof, and the other is a steel caboose, but it's black and white, and the evidence is inconclusive.  I'm planning to do a steel caboose.
So, black? red?  What is it??

Thanks for your help.

Brown. Floquil Roof Brown is a good match. With yellow ladder and grabs.

What manufacturer are you using to do this?

Life-Like is the only plastic option I know of in N, once you tame the softball-sized rivets and drop the height.  An Atlas version would be most welcome!

It's the Life Like.  I did the ride height fix last night, and I've got the red on.  I'll be masking it up to shoot the roof this evening.
Looks like those end platforms are brown, too.

I've got another one I'm going to stick some CNJ lettering on.  Does that get the same treatment? (I'm doing the earlier scheme sans 'Coast Guard' stripe...)  The color photos I've seen on Fallen Flags look more brown than black, but they're all from a low angle so it's really hard to tell...

Lee.  I have a brass unpainted Reading caboose looking for a home.

Black for CNJ. Gets kind of brown-ish with weathering.

Yellow grabs and black ladders.

Oooh... I like that funky little overhang on the cupola... this might go from being a painting project to a full blown modeling adventure!

Thanks again for the info...
Well Bob, throw it in the box with the next box of decoders you need installed.. I'm sure I can do something to earn it!!

Most all CNJ hacks have 'em, and a few Readings have 'em, too. I've got about 180 reference photos--let me know if you want any more images posted.
