On the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Ry., after the floods that decimated the eastern portion of the 3-foot narrow gauge line, the railroad put rail cars on bogie wheels, not unlike the AT&SF car in the link above, to get the rail cars back over land to the remaining portion of the line. The railroad could not afford to repair the tracks, and that was the only option for getting the stranded cars out. Find a copy of Mallory Hope Farrell's "Tweetsie Country" for pictures.
