Nice work everyone.

I'm just about finished with the new DVD for the Rochelle Subdivision. Here are a couple of clips for those interested. both files are around 50 mb each. Your browser may not have the plugin needed to play this type of video. If you get errors, I suggest right clicking the link and save it to your desktop and then double click the icon on your desktop. Don't forget to delete the icon on your desktop when you are done with it as the files are somewhat large.

No photos from me this week. I spent the first night at our new home yesterday. Its been a pretty wild ride... The house was winterized so I had to start everything up from the street. Water, then the water pipes, then the gas, then the water heater, then the sink drain, then the garbage disposal, then the dishwasher etc.

The plus side is the house is totally vacant (it was a foreclusure) and the price was about 20% off the market price (and about 40% off all time highs). The problems were the guy who owned it was a do-it-yourself type and the pluming is Mickey Moused. For example, I needed to use a short section of garden hose to connect the old cold water line to the new one for the kitchen using the old washer hookups in the basement. Everything works, but its definatly getting replaced when somthing goes.

Asside from that, I got a Samsung 40" LCD TV. Its got 1080p and is perfect for action movies because it has a 120 hertz refresh rate. For those of you who never seen the difference, all I can say is it is like night and day. Moving images can get "choppy" on LCD and plasma displays. The 120htz refresh makes the screen every bit as smooth as a CTR screen. This is one of the first TVs I ever saw that does this.

Since I got a new HDTV, I needed a new DVD player as well. I got a DVD-R, but no blue-ray (still too expensive). I am looking at getting a cheapy computer to use as network storage and DVR for the TV. My laptop will stand in for one for the time being.

The basment has a big puddle that does not want to go away. I'm not sure whats up. My next move is to install the new sump pump. I'm a little skiddish about breaking through the concrete.

Plenty of inspiration here tonight, as usual!

I managed to get enough time to put some new rolling stock in service.  First up was a TOFC unit: a Triple-53 Log Runner using the N Scale Kits flush side 89' flats, upgraded with grab irons (BLMA/Gold Medal) and the MLE hitches.  First a shot prior to truck/couplers & weathering:


and then in service (with unweathered trailers, alas):


Next is a down payment on a grain train: a BNSF Trinity hoppers with FVM/36 wheels, coupler crosswalks & a bit of weathering (1 of 3 put in to service):


Finally, my first attempt at tank car weathering (trying to go for that rusty patina on the top-side):

Been experimenting with building cat supports in N. This "prototype" K bridge was just made from Evergreen parts I had on hand, the final ones will be made from brass and much closer to scale. Flimsy styrene is somewhat oversize so it can support it's own weight. Also, I'll be using insulators much closer to scale size than these Sommerfeldt ones.

If the AEM-7 does result from this, I might have to seriously rethink what I'm doing... I spent a lot of Friday nights watching Conrail drain coal and automobiles onto the NEC from the Port Road at Perryville...

Indeed, the G changes the center of gravity for me. Spent 20 years living 3 blocks from the NEC and another 4 riding it to school every day. Saw so many of these they were "boring". PC, NJT, CR, Amtrak, freight, passenger, doubleheading, even wrecked. (I think the Arrows will always be boring though)

Actually it's a complete disaster, mostly working out of cardboard boxes with things scattered all over... That's why I stick a peice of paper behind everything I shoot
