New SP set from Kato?

I'm guessing custom... there's a guy at these conventions with Kato cars painted up for any RR you'd want.  You can see his display in some of the other photos.

Lord I hope not! I may have to kill myself. I have the Daylights and add-ons, the Wheels of Time, older Kato's painted silver and red (my doing), gallery cars, Kato's first Daylights, the old ConCor set of Daylights and a pre-order in to Chuck for the Rapido SP's (well just coaches).
I am out of control... Somebody stop me before I kill (my bank account) again!

in the passenger era SP passnger trains were an eclectic mix of whatever happened to be on hand. 

The WOT harriman cars are excellent stand-ins for SUBS (suburban coaches) on bay area commuter trains or its pre-streamliner for them.  About the only thing you did not mention was the bilevel commuter cars but they still appear on eBay now and then.

Not exactly the 'dogs dinner' the 'Coast Mail' became with nothing matching at all.  Daylight and Golden State paint schemes don't mix well visually (to my eye) but there is no reason not to block seperate trains.   Most photos up to around 1965 seem to be mosty matching but as AMTRAK approached they seemed to be less concerned about style and more about running what worked...

I think I have a couple of those double decker in SP.  One even has reverse lighting.  Don't know why I got them.  Might just sell them.  I'll let you all know.

In a word... NO.  By the time Espee had started applying the Sunset Ltd paint on these cars they were already being rebuilt to smooth sided cars because of the heavy corrosion behind the corrugation.  That Cor-Ten steel that Pullman used just didn't hold up well in certain enviroments, which really is kind of sad.

Now its worth mentioning that at least the articulated coaches were painted in UP Armour Yellow, Harbor Mist and red, and in UP Challenger green.  Possibly also in Overland TTG but I will have to check on that.

  The book "SP Passenger Cars Volume 1 Coaches and Chair Cars" published by the Southern Pacific Historical and Technical Society has information and photos showing some fluted side cars, not articulated,and the Sunbeam fluted side  train sets in the Sunset scheme. Yes otherwise cars were not repainted in this scheme untill they were converted to smooth sides. There were variations on the red striping at first Daylight Red was used with a thin black stripe above and below the red stripe. Width and positioning varied on different types of heavyweight and streamlined cars. The black stripes were finally deleted and then SP Scarlet replaced Daylight Red. The road name lettering was allways SP Lettering Gray not white as some people believe and some early color photos make it look. Looks like this guy does some interesting stuff, and I hope this doesn't make me look like an a$$, but http://www.emperortrains.com/rr/wiix.html is certainly not Willamette Industries "WIIX" - it's actually Willamette & Pacific, "WPRR".

They also followed the (incorrect) Microscale directions and misplaced the city of "Monroe", it belongs on the top stripe on the cab just under the road number.  And I know it's a real hassle, but I think the handrails really need to be yellow.

I was pleased to find someone offering my favorite road name though, and to his credit Doug (of Emperor of the North) is going to correct the website and will certainly provide a more prototypical unit than shown if you do order one.
