Start with 2 Atlas Caboose's , and a 2 pack set of Japanese Kawai plows , throw in blender with some other stuff and wind up with a Russel type plow . One slated for Casey's Scenic Railway , and the other for the Wyoming & La Grande . I have the CSR done in faded black now , and awaiting decals to get here . and now have the other for the W&LG half way to the point you see this one at , with the exact color undecided for now .

I started working on this year's Christmas layout.  I wanted to do a little winter scene I could use my Atlas N scale Shay on...


It's a folded dogbone loosely based on Gregg's 2x4 on a piece of 2" foam measuring about 20" x 36".  I had it up and running in about an hour.  Now to add some snow (white Sculptamold), a couple of structures, and some lighting...

This weekend I worked on the backdrop for my new layout.  I painted some clouds and the "most distant" mountains. The shelf brackets are where the top level will go.




The top level will look something like the mock-up on the left side here



The middle level is covered with plastic cloth.  You can see on the left where I have started the second layer of mountains.

I had a few small passenger car pieces left over from some bashes and, since I hate to waste anything, I kept them for some "future project".  That future project manifested itself this week when I decided I needed a diner near the station where the local crews could get some coffee and heartburn.

I finished about 1/2 of the garage.  Drywall work is not living room quality, but it is nice to see the place with white Killz primer   I also ordered a new door from Home Depot - 2" thick insulated - so I'll be able to open the door leading into the garage to heat and cool it.  I also have plans for a sink and epoxied floor.

If the layout fails, at least I get a tax break because of the new door.

For the first time in a while, I actually have some progress in N scale. Nn3, to be exact.

It's not much, but it's a huge step forward for this project.  I've been stuck for quite awhile, in the land of indecision.  I couldn't find a way to properly remotor the original tender, and really lost motivation to build a new tender when I began having issues with truck selection.

Today-
I managed to cannabalise 3 Bmann 4-4-0 tenders, to create one good one.  As well as transplanting the worm gear from a spare loco to the already-narrowed shell.





There is still a LOT of work to do, but it's mainly tying up loose ends and cosmetic work.  Both shells (tender and loco) will be completely stripped and repainted, after being sanded and filed for proper fitment.

As you can see, there is a small problem with the tender's gauge.  That's just a temporary issue though.  I have another set of tender trucks already narrowed, and awaiting shims to be fabricated. (to shim the wheels inboard from the unmodified side frame)  As long as I don't screw them up, it's a 3 minute swap. 


I know the pictures don't show much, but it's the first time I've had a reason to take a new pic in a while.  Please stand clear while I slap myself for not realising I had these parts sooner....

I'm trying my hand at lightweight hydrocal, and some plaster cloth too.  this "not over-planning" is working so far... as in: progress is being made.  lesson: smaller batches, mixed quicker.

I've been experimenting with track options for my new layout. I think it will be ME c55 and atlas turnouts for the main line and handlaid c40
for sidings and spurs.

I did some work on the decal for the upcomming N Scale Kits Spine Cars



and second type of containers. The shielded container is designed for radiation waste.

Roland, it's great to see those garbage spines finally coming out. I don't personally need any, but I think you'll be selling a lot of those things...
