Walthers announces 2nd N scale "passenger" car

The word "passenger" is in quotes because the car carries no passengers, as it will be a 72 foot streamlined baggage car. So, the second car is coming and will be due in February 2008. I find it interesting that it will be offered in PRR, even though PRR had no streamlined baggage cars, opting instead to "modernize" its B60b fleet.

Drat, with the need of a 300+ passenger car roster and Walthers picks one I don't need!!!

I'm told this is an ATSF Baggage built by Budd in lot 9601-135 in June 1951.

I'd like to see a short full baggage in a heavyweight design.  Would make a nice addition to the wreck train.

FWIW, if this is a non-corrugated car it is the 2nd "proto" smoothside baggage car in N. IIRC, the baggage cars were shorter due to axle loads or something like that.

Kato also made an ACF 71' baggage (UP proto) which may be very similar.

The concor 84' SS baggage seems to be based on a rebuilt HW baggage (it should have 6 wheel trucks).

The lack of n-Scale Modern-era Commuter Passenger Equipment really bothers me.  It's as if the passenger train died in 1560, when the truth is trains carry more people today than they ever have in the history of railroading.  Sad.

Well, the Walther's website clearly says it is a Pullman-Standard car.  So, I find it hard to believe that it was built by Budd... 

It's probably the Chicago Great Western car they're doing in HO scale as well.  The fluted version is just a corrugated side version of the same car.



You can see that their artwork shows a smooth roof.  More proof that it is P-S and not Budd.

  I will reserve judgement, untill I see (recieve) the sleepers I have on order first. Then this won't be a PCM -like fantisy products announced and not delivered.
