I spent part of the week in San Antonio on a work related trip .. managed to get some time in for railfanning, but the sun played havoc with me. The good locations always seemed to be on the wrong side of the sun .. but here are some of the better shots.

At Kirby Yard ..

The last two Phila. Transportation Co., shots and one from the Nickel Plate at Bellevue, OH.

PTC 5220 taken from the platform of the Market Street Elevated:

PTC PCC 2173 on the private right-of-way Willow Grove line. Weedkiller? What's That?

NKP Berkshire 707 at the coaling tower in Bellevue. I don't think we realize today how dirty both ground and air were at engine terminals back then.:

Next week, my only photos of the Erie and the Lackawanna (pre-EL).

Reaching into the archives for stuff you may have seen before:

From last fall @ "The Brickyard"

Then in the winter @ "Cove". Just out of frame is a Tom Mannsicle

This spring in Bethlehem

And two weeks ago, in the Strasburg shops. This is the ex-N&W  4-8-0 #475 being re-tubed. This is one of my personal favorite still-steaming steam engines.

Amtrak AEM-7 942 toasts in the sun and jams under the signals at MP 118.4 on the NEC. the train is about to pass the site of the wye to the Bowie Racetrack on the right.

Wheeling and Lake Erie chicken feed grain train symboled as 56J heads south across the Potomac River on Norfolk Southern trackage rights.  the WLE grain train no longer takes CSX to NS at Hagerstown, instead swinging west and then south in Ohio making this shot no longer possible.

an MTY Chalk Point coal train awaits a new crew in Brandywine, MD with CSX SD80MAC 811, still wearing her Conrail colors.  the siding to the right was used to scrap a dozen or so coal cars after a derailment a few years back.

That would be Shepherdstown, then?  Great spot.
Unfortunately, none of the photos I took there back in the early 80's ever came out.  Stupid instamatic!

I did catch the WLE going through Hagerstown westbound a couple years ago...

here's the reverse angle of the NS bridge over the Potomac at Shepherdstown, WV.  NS I12R heads north into Maryland at last light on a cool March evening in 2005.

Had to go on a business trip near Camden, NJ last year.  Went up by Acela and back on a regional train.  Here are some shots I took at 30th St awaiting for return train to DC.

Took the Beetle to get the transmission fluid changed this morning, the local VW shop is right next to the Erie's "North Warren" main (part of the original Atlantic Great Western) So while they worked on my car I hopped on my bike with camera.

Old Erie/EL signal, they look that the Ohio Central up ahead.

Dropping off a boxcar.

This part of the Erie is maintained by the OC and NS has trackage rights. NS runs iron ore train through here to Ashtabula harbor, you can see the ballast is about 50% iron ore pellets. Wonder how much scrap money I could get for a pick-up bed full of these... ::)

See not all of Erie's tracks in Warren are gone  ;)
