D&RGW C48 Class 2-8-0 #1157 on November 11, 1945 west of Grand Junction, Colorado.  The C48 class 2-8-0s were the real workhorses of the Rio Grande.  They did every job imaginable, serving as switchers, freight power, passenger power, helpers, local freight power, branch line road engines, etc.  While not as glamorous as the big passenger locomotives or the humungous articulateds, they were the cornerstone of the D&RGW steam locomotive roster.

Sounds a lot like the PRR's H8s,9s,and 10s. They had something like 2000 of them, and they were much the same.

They're the reason why the Pennsy had so few 0-8-0s, these things worked everywhere doing everything.

Chris is right, RailImages has been down since about 10:00 this morning and may be down for several days. There have been some real problems lately. Pete Nolan and I each have about 600 photos on there and all of a sudden they did a "fruit basket turnover" and defy reordering. In the meantime, the search function also quit! Then the server handling both RailImages and Trainboard started going down.

I was busy this morning but when I tried to post some photos about 5 minutes after Eric W. I discovered RailImages had been taken off line.

It's a NS car.

All the cars that CSX got were re-marked NYC; all the NS cars retained the CR reporting marks. If it was owned by Maryland Midland or anyone else, it would have had their own reporting marks on it.

Well, RailImages is finally back up, so here are the photos I planned to post last Thursday. These are of the first unit coal train for Seminole Electric Cooperative departing Port Saint Joe, Florida, in December 1982. Thousands followed over the next 16 years.





Next week (tomorrow), some first generation LIRR Diesel powered passenger trains.

No, the AN runs from Port Saint Joe to Chattahoochee, where it connects with CSXT. Used to be the junction between ACL, SAL, and L&N as well as the AN. The AN's three SW9's and eight SW1500's have all been sold to other railroads, only the three GP15-T's are left.
