Title: Train Works PS 4427 Covered Hoppers
Post by: Nato on August 16, 2023, 11:46:46 AM
Train Works is showing a New PS 4427 Covered Hopper. It looks really good.  If I still had a layout I would purchase several. Nate Goodman (Nato).

samusi01: Yes.

It's good to see some movement from Trainworx.  Hopefully the rest of their backlog will be along fairly soon.  I was beginning to worry about whether they were still in business.

I note the Chessie cars sold out first at MBK. There's some folks out there with good taste.

FYI, for you rock island fans,, all six cars are different. Some have the wheel dot, some have aci labels.  There is also a piece of artwork that varies from road number to road number. Really cant tell what it is. Maybe a stamp from shop the car was built or repaired at.

Some are Route Rock, some are Rock, some are The Rock.

630266 has an oxygen hazard placard on it... only one it seems based on pics on Lombard's website, they show each individual car. I enjoy this variation of where's Waldo.

The MKT ones are out in the wild now. I've got a red one.

The red ones are new from the late 60s and the green are repaints late 70s.

Oxidizer 5.1 from the looks of it. And I agree the variations are nice.

My two Chessie and single Cargill cars arrived today, pretty much what you'd expect from TWX, very well made cars. They do come packaged a little differently than previous TWX cars I've bought were. Same jewel case, same nest, but the jewel case was wrapped in plastic and the car itself was wrapped in plastic that has a light adhesive on it; the car doesn't just slide out of the plastic, you need to pull the plastic apart at the seam to release the car and the adhesive (think of postit note sticky) is on the entirety of the inside of the plastic, contacting the car.

Not sure if it's good or bad, but it is different from previous releases.

The only thing that frustrates me about Trainworx is they list a road name and product number and -1 through -12 but don't tell you that there are 6 paint scheme variations mixed in there..

What's worse, I noticed on the Trainworx site that there were two cars lettered for Route Rock and some had the black under "ROCK".
When I seen them listed on MBK, all six cars were the same image lettered "THE ROCK".

I emailed Pat and asked if there was a mixup and he replied "Not a mix up, all six cars are different".
That's when I noticed the differences other than the lettered "THE" & "ROUTE".

There's similar variation with the Chessie cars, of the two I have one has a small rectangular safety slogan on it, one does not.
