PWRS:
Athearn has told us they will be making a major product announcement on Saturday January 28th at 7 AM PST. We will be sending out the details as soon as we have them so stay tuned!
-
Over on TB they said 10:30am (EST) at the Athearn booth at Amherst/Springfield.
-
Hope it's a new BigBoy.

Atlas buys Athearn N scale tooling?
Jason
-
Maybe it's that U50 they were rumoring a dozen years ago.
-
If I read it right, this is a project in both HO and N scales. So, my best guess is some modern freight car that I won't have a use for. But...if they want to surprise me with a Santa Fe steam loco, or a 1940-ish gondola, or a resurrection of the old MDC palace cars, that would be fine with me.

Oh man, that wouldn't suck.
But I think Atlas is still digesting Walthers.
-
Athearn does have 2 different N scale boxcars in today's announcement
-
Hopefully it's their California Surfliners to go with the F59 they announced last year.
-
Athearn will announce that they are dumping HO in favor a real worth while scale ...... N

I'm no PRR expert, but it strikes me odd that the 50' PS1 is in the circle-keystone scheme with a build date of 1957. I thought that shadow-keystone was standard as of around 1955.
Were any 50' PS-1 ever painted circle-keystone?

I'm coiled up iN anticipation...

What? Another coil car? Us old fart '60s/'70s modeler get ignored yet again.
At least Atlas is doing the 45's. Now if ScaleTrains gets off their collective duffs and ports the GP30 to N, I'll be happy (and broke) for a good long while.

No, they are just waiting for sufficient number of reservations.

I think Athearn's SD70, C-50 series Bay window caboose, ethanol and LPG tank cars are the finest models made in N scale. I look forward to their releases. If it's something that I can use, I buy it.
-
I'd dig some pre-1970 ACF 4650 cf Covered Hoppers.

The Shadow Keystone herald was out in 1954. I can't remember exactly what month it started. A build date of 1957 would definitely have the Shadow rather than Circle.
-
The graphic on their website for the PRR car shows a "new" date of 12-57, but a "built" date of 4-42 (well before PS-1 production of any sort, much less the wide door 50' version, and 15 years before PRR had an X47). I would speculate they took the lettering (and circle logo) from a car built in 1942 (X38a ?), and just inserted "new" date without correcting the built date. Or correcting for the shadow keystone. I mean, it's just N scale, after all.....Nope, can't be that- the HO page looks identical.

Athearn thoughts - Slap Pennsy on anything, SPF will buy it

LIFOAM coolers ..

LIFOAM coolers ..
Wouldn't that be more like something Lionel would make?

Life Like also made under the brand name LIFOAM -- I forgot they were sold to walthers not athearn .. MDC went to Athearn..
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life-Like
Life-Like was a manufacturer of model trains and accessories. In 1960, the company purchased the assets of the defunct Varney Scale Models and began manufacturing model trains and accessories under the name Life-Like in 1970. In 2005 the parent company, Lifoam Industries, LLC, chose to concentrate on their core products and sold their model railroad operations to hobby distributor Wm. K. Walthers. Today, the Life-Like trademark is used by Walthers for HO Scale Buildings.

Intermountain: Where tooling goes to die.
Intermountain stated on Facebook that they will have preproduction samples of the F7 at the show.
-
The Pennsy ck PS-1 just shows you need to verify every scheme they release rather than assuming validity.

And I had a senior moment too - I forgot that it was Model Power, not Life-Like, that MRC sold to Lionel. Hard to keep track. :(

Bryan: I'll second those early 4650s. I need a bunch - GN gray, GN BSB, NP gray, BN green, MILW had five of them, their only Center Flows.
It would be a natural to go with their 4600s, was a very popular prototype, and has never been done before, so would make sense.
Intermountain ran an ad for them, in N scale, years ago. It only ran one month, and the "new tooling" was never mentioned again.

MP15AC is my guess .

Oh absolutely, I see them quite a bit. But it seems like everyone and their brother is coming out with coil cars right now.

I hope the price is a typo.

It is. The N scale flyer says $44.99 for singles and $129.99 for the 3 pack. The $64.99 is the HO single car price. The other is a typo...
-
Well, I need these. Might need to just go for two three packs
-
That coil car is not something that I need, but I’m not too upset. That’s because I just preordered two HO scale Atlantic Coast Line F-units in the purple and silver scheme that Athearn Genesis announced yesterday. 😀

Whomp, whomp.
-
I've seen a lot of these when out railfanning.
Hopefully it'll be a hit for them.
I wish it were an older car, but I've got no sour grapes. I should be sinking my budget into signal system stuff anyway.
-
The description indicates that the cover is insulated. I don't immediately understand why steel would need that type of thermal protection. Does anyone know?
-
Glad to see somebody making them finally. Been seeing them a lot while railfanning the past few years.
-

It's to prevent condensation from forming in the car and causing the steel to rust.
-
Thanks!
-
It's an excellent choice imo... I do not need any, too new.
And with Atlas GP40-2W hitting the streets recently and Rapido's recent N scale announcements I need a break, lol.
-
MEC and CV... nice.

I am glad for those that need another coil car, as for me it’s a HUGE ehhh. 45$😬😬😬😬
-
Not as big a deal as their mid month announcement of those 61 foot gondolas.

If you're all done yawning at Athearn. You can now yawn at Bachmann:
