Can someone tell me if InterMountain F3 units in NYO&W ever were released? I have an inquiry in but haven't heard back yet. At worst, I'll get an update in person at the end of the month, but I figured someone in the Railwire community would know. Thanks.

A DDG search (mine works for models, it's prototype photos that I can't find) produced a couple of photos of ebay auctions for which the links have expired. But those appear to be N scale models (one of which has the same catalog number as shown for their current "reserve now" - so I am pretty sure it is N scale).
According to Pacific Western Rail Systems, there was a second run for which reservations closed in 2016, which was due to deliver Aug. 2017. You might contact them to ask if these were actually produced. I note that they list them as a "2nd run"- so I assume they were actually made at some point.

doesn't look like it

There's one on eBay with a BIN price, so I'd say they were released. Trovestar says released 3-1-2018. Trovestar is usually fairly close to accurate on dates released and whatnot.

I wasn't sure if we were good to allow ebay links or not. Either way, thanks for putting it there.

Hi Bryan
Yes they do - I have F3A r/n 503 and F3B r/n 822. Did you have an interest in these units? Harry
-
Well, they certainly chose a color for that gray...

We most certainly are. As long as it is not about religion, politics, or track cleaning methods. :D

Harry, I would be interested in your F3A for certain. I'm looking for a pair of A units.

The photo lighting looks slightly dark but the IMRC HO model looks correct. I assume they used the same specs.

Hi Bryan -- I'm sending you a private message about the F3's. Regards, harry

The O&W rarely ran A-A sets. They purchased the F3’s as A/B sets and single A’s. That said, I am a firm believer that model railroaders should run trains in a way that makes them happy. If you want a more authentic O&W consist, add a B unit in there. If A-A consists make you happy, have at it.
I enjoy knowing the history, but as long as we get satisfaction from our model trains, what else needs to be said?
Edit: I was half asleep when I wrote this…. should have also added that the F3A’s were often mated with FT A/B sets to from an ABA consist.

I will take that under advisement.
I have Erie FTs that also will be patrolling Maybrook so I'd prefer not to duplicate motive power. F3s are the goal.

I'm guessing this is why he's looking for an AA Pair..

Nice pic. I don't have this one but I have another pic of an A-A set in Maybrook.
Also a note that I'm running in 1956, which is right before the road was dissolved.

That is clearly a fan trip. My comments were about the normal assignments of F3’s. But sure, if you want to model that day, grab two F3As and a host of coaches that probably never touched O&W iron before or after.
There are some very good resources out there for anyone wanting to understand how the O&W assigned their F’s. I will go out on a limb and say that the use of a single F3A outnumbered the times an A/A set were used.
But as I said in my post, I am only sharing info. Our model worlds are our own, and what suits the layout owner is what is right for that layout.

Nice pic. Do you know what train that is and where?
Thanks, Otto K.

There was also a photo of a NYOW passenger train with an AA Pair.
From the photos I could find, it looks like the A or AA sets were used for passenger service, and FT or F3 AB/ABBA (or FT AB F3A) were assigned to Freight Trains. (Just an observation skimming through Google Image searches)
Back to the NH Train, Here is another photo of (maybe the same) NRHS fantrip.. AT Maybrook

The photo was in a New Haven/PC folder on Flickr with about 1200 photos.

In there I was able to find a photo of a New Haven car in NYC two tone gray?

That would be Pullman two tone. A lot of Pullman cars were painted in this scheme, including quite a few on the New Haven. It's very similar to NYC two tone but as far as I know not identical.

Thanks for the links @learmoia. I particularly enjoyed the New Haven folio; what an astonishing variety of power and paint schemes!
Who knew? :D
