Title: N scale ALCO C636, MLW M636 and M640 body shell kits are now in production
Post by: BCOL 747 on September 13, 2019, 05:06:49 PM
Hello Gentleman

The N scale ALCO C636, MLW M636 and M640 body shell kits are now in the store and shipping will begin late next week. Please feel free to place your orders at http://www.briggsmodels.ca/

These models will fit the Atlas C628 or C630 chassis, which is not included. Because of the trucks on these units being very long, a new gearbox was necessary, and is also included with the correct truck sideframes. The price of this kit is $110 Canadian. The reduction in price is due to the modeler needing two more Atlas 540304 gear sets if you wish to power all axles. We wanted to price the kit taking that into account. These can be a little difficult to obtain, but there really wasn't another option for making these unique trucks.

If anyone is interested in an alternative that compromises slightly, we can also supply truck sideframes resized to fit other Atlas SD trucks, which would require no extra parts or gearbox work save for the SD35 trucks. There are numerous other trucks you can use in this model, the Atlas China SD7, SD9, SD24, SD26, SD35, SD50, and SD60 trucks which will also work in the C628/C630 frame. If you are interested in going this direction please include a note in your order so we can include the correct wheelbase gearboxes, or tweaked sideframes to fit the any of the above Atlas SD trucks.

The kits are as follows;

SKU NK54 C636 Body Shell kit SP&S/BN Version N Scale

SKU NK55 C636 Body Shell kit PC/Conrail Version N Scale

SKU NK56 C636 Body Shell kit Illinois Central Version N Scale

SKU NK57 M636 Body Shell kit CP/CN N Scale Version N Scale

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Kind regards,

Chris Dittmar

This is going to be one expensive month...

How do the trucks in this kit compare to the Dofasco trucks that Briggs currently sells?  Is one closer to prototype than the other?  Or is the kit description talking about the trucks for the ALCo C636 rather than the MLW M636?  If I order the M636 do I use the Dofosco trucks I bought earlier?

Chris, the pictured unit is the C-636, correct? Also, no listing for the M-640 on the order page.

The M640 should be on the site by the end of the week. We had to make a slight change at the the last minute.

Hi Chris, has there been any update on the M640 or the etched parts picture?
