Title: Question for Scott L. re: road construction
Post by: shark_jj on November 06, 2017, 02:35:50 PM
Scott, I keep looking at the stunning picture from last Weekend's Update and I am particularly taken by how realistic the road looks.  I am just at the stage where I am looking at road construction and wondered if you could share how you achieved the look.  I did check out the Facebook post on the construction of the module but saw no mention of the roadway construction.

John, I don’t do anything special when it comes to road construction.  The road is basically lightweight spackle which is sanded smooth and then painted with grey latex house paint.  The color is close to Polly Scale EL grey.  I airbrush road grime down the center of each lane or anywhere where cars would travel.  That color is Polly Scale Grimy Black.  The lines down the center of the road and on edge of the road is colored pencil.  The white stripe is simple enough. The double yellow stripe requires two passes.  First pass is with white pencil then second pass is the overlay of the yellow pencil.  That’s all there is to it!  I’ll post some pics when I take some.
