Here they are: http://www.blwnscale.com/mt-new.htm (http://www.blwnscale.com/mt-new.htm)
I'm really liking the buildings being released!

The color hues and car number series on the State of Maine cars are not what I would have used, although the MTL carbody chosen is the prototypically correct one.
I'm very glad I'm no longer an MTL collector/accumulator.

To bad those Beech 18s are Z...

I think the colors of everything are a bit off. Maybe it's a computer problem?

I see white and gold. What does everyone else see??

I'm liking the BN hopper. Anyone have a proto pic of it?

The blue on the SoM is way too light and way too warm for it to be a photo color-balance error. The red is off as well, too bright. They look like the colors used on their previous SoM releases, which have been incorrect (on all levels).
-
maybe folks should wait until they actually have the SOM car before dogging the colors? Just sayin :D
-
Seriously, you guys are judging off those BLW pics????

Does that hold for the number series used also, given that it's already been specified on all the literature?
I'll wait until someone else posts a photo, because I won't be getting one.
-
The SoM car is probably fully ink-jet-printer decorated anyway. The colors will be made up from bunch of tiny cyan-magenta-yellow dots.
I am now very hesitant to buy any new MT cars because I don't like their new decorating methods. My last disappointment was the Openheimer Casings car I just bought - instead of spray-painting the green sides and Tampo printing the artwork, the are fully ink-jet printed. I don't like the textured look with fuzzy color demarcation. I realize that my standards of acceptable decoration quality seem to be higher than an average modelers, but I am what I am. ;) I guess I've collected enough cars already - no need to buy new reprints (even if they are on a more correct car).

Fair enough - the BLW site does say hi res photos will be posted at a later date.

Heck Yeah! B&O HW Diner! Gimme-Gimme Hubba-Hubba!
Thanks Joe!

Now I'm looking at the media pics, which I would think are color-corrected. The blue definitely is wrong. And judging by the blue exposed at the door edges, it appears that Peteski's guess about being inkjet-printed may be accurate.
The service date (1957) also doesn't jive with the billboard-style reporting marks (1960s).
-
Awww man I was looking to retire my ESM SOM cars with something more accurate. :D

NOT funny! 8)

Are we really still snubbing products based on color images on the Internet? Really???
Joe
-
No, I'm snubbing because the model is wrong. It took two minutes to confirm that the BAR 10000-series consisted of ACF boxcars, while the BAR 6000-series consisted of PS-1 boxcars with cushioned underframes. The railroad took delivery of the PS-1 series in 1962. The SoM and reporting mark fonts are wrong also, as is the herald.
And, that is your official product photo, not random Internet photo.
Regardless of how "off" the color in your official photo may be, it's extremely unlikely that the car is painted (or inkjet-printed) Old Glory Blue.

Can somebody please enlighten me regarding the Burlington Northern covered hopper?
It is already BN green, so why and when was it patched with a darker green that looks like Pullman green?
Please correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the lettering the very first lettering scheme used when BN began in 1970?
And, BTW, the model is a bit pricey...

I'm thinking the dark green is the original weathered paint and the green is the more recent patch :)

And for all those who needed ice and milk wagons: http://www.blwnscale.com/mt-medicine-wagon.htm (http://www.blwnscale.com/mt-medicine-wagon.htm)

I'm guessing the car was damaged and repaired. The car shop that did the repairs must not have had any BN green. Again, only a guess.
Joe might be able to shed some light, however after getting reamed by Brian over the BAR car I doubt he'll chime in again on this topic.

So BAR had SOM 40' cars in the early '50s, and only got SOM 50' boxcars in the early '60s?
-
The BN car has a prototype. There are actually several that look similar but frustratingly enough I can't seem to find one. Pretty sure I even nabbed one once.
-

The 1950 Magor-built XIH class was the first to wear the SoM scheme. Some 1932-ARA 40' boxcars were repainted into the scheme in the mid 1950s. The ACF 50' boxcars were the first 50' cars to wear the scheme when delivered in 1957. Subsequent 50' cars built in the early to mid 1960s, including PS-1s, were delivered in the scheme before the railroad switched to the all-red or freight car red schemes. Some of the Magor and PC&F XIH cars repainted in the late 1960s retained the scheme also.
-
Note that the data on the BN hopper is the modern "no-CAPY" two-line style, so this isn't the original lettering. And, yes, I've seen several patch jobs, on various car types, using just about the same color, since the BNSF merger. Whether the exact car modeled is one of them I have no idea.
-
Hey joe, any idea on a Burlington diner car or should I look at doing my own?
-
Thank you for your answers.
What does "no-CAPY" mean?
Javier
-
No capacity. Previously listed above the load limit (LD LMT) and light weight (LT WT) and below the reporting marks.
-

Its in the BN color guide, I can shoot you a fb message of it. Might have seen a shot online too.
-
Also the patch on the BN car isn't dark green, should be black. Agree the price is a bit high, but I'll probably still get one.
-
Ike,
I notice going back to the BLW site linked that they are already sold out. You will have to look elsewhere for the BN hopper.
And, its the only one sold out. Law of supply and demand suggests they could have priced it higher given the shortage.......so it can't be too pricey other than in your (and a few others) opinions. Frankly, almost the only cars I order now (having 700 plus, which is more than enough) is the MT weathered and graffiti versions, which make my fleet look more post 2000 than it would otherwise. I am glad they are doing them, at almost any price.......I recall seeing some third party vendors charging up to $40-60 per car before MT got in the game.
That said, it does look like a two color scheme, and at least in the way back time machine, MT used to charge extra for every pass, so not sure why it seems a bit higher than others, but am sure there is a reason.

It's a very dark grey we used. Black was too stark.

Saw these in the hobby shop. They match the official MTL photo.

It's rare that the Micro-News and media pack photos are not accurate depictions of the models.
