Title: Figuring on Figures
Post by: Philip H on June 24, 2014, 01:02:48 PM
Since they are Graham Farrish/Bachmann I'm going to assume these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/390865211846?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/390865211846?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649)

Are British N scale (1:148) and not American 1:160?

You'd most likely get away with it.  I have figured from China, Japan, Europe, and england and just like real humans, some are of course taller than others.

Yes they are 1:148. It should be fine to intermix people. Other things, containers for example, don't work so well.

Thanks Gents.  They are now on the way, so we'll see how we do.

Man, that's a great find.   I was just thinking the other day that it would be nice to have some modern looking MOW workers....that set is perfect.   I have to think the larger size won't be a huge issue since many railroad workers are larger in stature anyway.  (assuming they didn't already account for that, which they might have)    I haven't been able to find any others for sale, but that's a purchase for me, almost assuredly.

There's a lot of modern figures out of japan too.  Their N scale is only 1:150 and the are working off a smaller human prototype so they might work out perfectly.  Lots of track workers and railway personnel.

But they have British accents!

Links?  Talking about the Kato's?   Just noticed their track worker set...I knew they had an engineer set or something like that.   Their track worker one looks good too.

Admittedly I haven't paid a lot of attention to figures.   I lean toward being "underpopulated" with respect to figures so I won't have too many...but I do want to set some scenes.

Preiser also has a modern city workers set in the orange safety vests you might want to look for.

Actually, the Spanish Inquisition gave 30 days notice, so you could prepare your legal defense, talk to the local priest etc.

Did the Graham Farish figures arrive? How do they look?

How do they look?

Yes, I'm curious too.   I couldn't stand it and went ahead and sprung for that set and the survey crew.   Thinking they have to be close enough.

They are in, but I've been too lazy to get pics.  I'll remedy that tonight.

How about just general thoughts?   Happy with them or meh?

Generally happy, and not to much off from their 1:160 counterparts.  Odd as it sounds I've been struggling to recreate some of my fellow, more portly southerners, and the added bulk of the British figures may help with that quest.

Model Power has a nice set of portly figures.  I think those would be just the ticket. Well, most figure manufacturers (like Presiser or Noch) offer this type of a figure set (just pricier).

I have a Preiser 250 unpainted figures set that I pull out and paint occasionally, and it has some portly folks. Its just easier to do that AND in railroad safety garb if its already painted.

MP figures are painted, and so are Preiser and Noch - for additional price.  :)  But even painted, MP figures are reasonably priced.

So here's a quick cell phone grab of the Bachmann/Graeme Farrish figures with their companion Preiser workers:

Sizing look pretty similar.

It looks like Graham Farish update the workers to today's standards, about 50 pounds heavier than Preisers figures that were designed 30, 40 years ago.
